Artist:  古市 金峨  -  Furuichi Kinga (1805-1880)

       Furuichi Kinga was born in Obara Village, Kojima District, in the second year of the Bunka era (1805). His given name was Yu 猷, and his common names were Keizo 啓三 or Tetsuzo 哲蔵. He also briefly used the surname Chiba 千葉.

       Kinga's family ran a dye shop, so he initially used the name Aizan 藍山, but later changed it to Kinaga 金峨. Around the age of 17 or 18, he went to Kyoto and became an apprentice to Okamoto Toyohiko 岡本 豊彦(1773-1845), studying the Shijo school of dyeing 四条派. He was hailed as an exceptional talent, alongside Shiokawa Bunrin 塩川 文麟(1808-1877) and others.
